Abstract

V magistrskem delu smo proučevali medijsko pismenost digitalnih priseljencev v povezavi s spletnim družbenim omrežjem Facebook. Gre za starejše uporabnike, ki s temi tehnologijami niso odraščali in se zato pogosto soočajo s težavami pri njihovi uporabi. V raziskovalnem delu smo izvedli anketo, s katero smo ugotavljali, kako pogosto digitalni priseljenci uporabljajo Facebook, kaj jih pri tem motivira ter kako poznajo in uporabljajo njihove funkcionalnosti. Prav tako smo izmerili njihovo medijsko pismenost prek samoocene in ustreznega merskega instrumenta. Rezultati so pokazali, da le tip motivacije 'nadzor nad aktivnostmi otrok/bližnjih' napoveduje samooceno medijske pismenosti, medtem ko ostali tipi motivacij ne napovedujejo samoocenjene oziroma ocenjene medijske pismenosti. Prav tako so rezultati pokazali, da število ur dnevne uporabe družbenega omrežja Facebook ne vpliva na samoocenjeno oziroma ocenjeno medijsko pismenost, a da imajo tisti digitalni priseljenci, ki uporabljajo Facebook dve leti ali manj, nižjo samoocenjeno in ocenjeno medijsko pismenost kot tisti, ki ga uporabljajo več kot pet oziroma več kot deset let. Rezultati so pokazali tudi, da večina anketiranih digitalnih priseljencev ne naredi nič, ko naleti na objavo z vprašljivo kredibilnostjo, in da so precej previdni pri sprejemanju prošenj za prijateljstvo. Naši rezultati lahko služijo pri pripravi izobraževanj ali kot osnova za proučevanje medijske pismenosti oziroma proučevanje povezave med medijsko pismenostjo in drugimi družbenimi omrežji.

Secondary title: Media literacy of digital immigrants in relation to using social networking site Facebook
Secondary abstract: The master's thesis explores the level of self-assessed and measured level of media literacy of digital immigrants in relation to the social network Facebook. Digital immigrants are older useres who did not grow up with these technologies and they often face problems when using social networks. In the research part, we conducted an online survey to determine the habits of digital immigrants using social networks – frequency of use, motivation to use, knowledge and use of functionalities, etc. We also measured their media literacy through self-assessment and an appropriate measurement instrument. The results showed that only the type of motivation 'control over activities of children/loved ones' predicts self-assessment of media literacy, while other types of motivation do not predict self-assessed or assessed media literacy. Also, the results showed that the number of hours of use of Facebook per day does not affect the self-assessed or measured media literacy. On the other hand those digital immigrants who have been using Facebook for two years or less have lower self-assessed and assessed media literacy than those, who use Facebook more than 5 or more than 10 years. The results also showed that most of the surveyed digital immigrants do nothing when they come across a post with questionable credibility and are quite careful in accepting friendship request. Our results can serve as the basis for courses about Facebook and media literacy or as a basis for studying media literacy and the connection between media literacy and other social networks.
