Abstract

Secondary title: Usage of reverse engineering for deformation analysis and corrections of plastic injection molding tool
Secondary abstract: The diploma thesis consists of an introductory chapter, which presents the process of polymer injection molding from feedstock to the final product. This section also mentions the processing parameters that affect the quality of the final product and defects that occur during this process. The main part of the assignment relates to a plastic product made by the injection molding process. After the injection molding cycle, the cooling phase begins, where unwanted deformations occur, which negatively affects the quality of the product. We tackled the practical task by scanning the initially deformed product and transfer it to the digital format. Once we had the model in digital format, we were able to analyze it and compare it to reference CAD-models. We also performed a computer simulation using equivalent parameters used to fabricate the product. Based on the compared results from both analysis, we selected the more appropriate ones, identified critical locations, and presented the findings. From the obtained results, a tool correction was performed at a critical point by segmenting the insert, which was replaced by another insert that had the appropriate dimensions.
