Abstract

Secondary title: Children's outdoor play in different weather conditions
Secondary abstract: It is said that there is no good and bad weather, only good and bad equipment. Nowadays, children at home and in kindergarten do not participate in free play in various weather conditions enough. This diploma thesis, entitled Children's Outdoor Play in Different Conditions, consists of theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part presents interesting facts and advantages of playing in the natural environment, and the importance of risk in such playing. Playing in various weather conditions is presented in detail, with all the advantages and dangers it brings. The purpose of the research is to determine how children perceive play in natural environment, and what senses they use when playing in different weather conditions. The results were obtained by observing free play of two preschool children in natural environment. The children played in natural environment for six days, despite the snow, rain, sun and cold. Attention was focused on children's questions and interesting comments, and it was further observed whether the play motivation came from a child or whether he or she might need additional encouragement from the teacher. We have established that children use almost all their senses when playing outdoors, only in the colder months can they be deprived of their sense of taste, as there are fewer edible goods available at that time. They often get dirty during such playing, however this does not prevent them from playing, provided they are equipped with appropriate protective clothing and footwear.
