(diplomsko delo)
Abstract
S pomočjo raziskovalne študije, smo ugotavljali seznanjenost prebivalcev Šaleške doline o tej bolezni in kako se zaščitijo pred morebitnim ugrizom klopa.

Acknowledgment of Šaleška valley residents about tick- borne encephalitis |
Secondary abstract: |
Tick-borne meningoencephalitis (hereinafter referred to as TBM), is a viral infection of the membrane that surrounds the brain and the central nervous system, which can have long-term consequences. In Slovenia, the disease is spread by a species of tick called Ixodes ricinus, whilst the disease itself is caused by the meningoencephalitis virus. As in most countries, vaccination against this disease, which is known to be the most effective preventive measure against TBM, takes place in Slovenia as well. Health care services recommend preventive vaccination for the majority of population, especially for people, who often wander in or around forests.
The thesis presents the TBM disease and the preventive role of nurses when it comes to TBM. With the help of a research study, we were establishing the acquaintance of the inhabitants of Šaleška valley with this disease and how they protect themselves against an eventual tick bite.
The research was based on quantitave methodology, the field research was carried out by means of survey, and the theoretical part was done with the help of some domestic and foreign literature. The results of the study have shown that the inhabitants of the Šaleška valley are quite familiar with the TBM disease. More than half of them would be willing to participate in a preventive education about TBM, where they could learn more information about the disease, the preventive measures before wandering into the nature, the vaccination, and the consequences the disease may leave.
Nursing officers and other medical staff can provide for the highest possible awareness and thus contribute to mass vaccination of the population.
