diplomsko delo
Abstract
Vključeni so izražali občutek sta strahu in žalosti.

How do relatives experience of relocating their elderly family members into a care home |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: The increasing number of the older populations causes more and more people to move into nursing home due to their lack of independence in carrying out daily activities. Relatives also play an important role in the decision to go to nursing home, which is often a difficult decision for them. Purpose: The purpose of diploma work was to research process of departures of relatives into nursing home, how do relatives come to the conclusion and how do they feel about relatives moving into nursing home. We were also interested what the role of the institution in this process is. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five relatives who experienced the departure of somebody close to them into nursing home. Interviewing took place from May 2019 to January 2020. The participation was voluntary and anonymous. Results: Five interviewees participated in the study, four of which were female and one male. The youngest person was 28 years old and the oldest was 59 years old. Five topics emerged from the analysis, namely reasons for moving to nursing home (health reasons, overburdening of relatives), feelings when moving (pleasant and unpleasant feelings), problems when moving (communication with nursing home employees, economic problems), what was helpful in the process of moving (seeking information, working with the institution) and feelings now that some time has passed (positive and negative feelings).Discussion and conclusion: It was found that everyone has a hard time coping with the departure of their loved ones to the nursing home. Most often, the expressed feelings are fear and sadness. The biggest problem was 24-hour care and health issues. There are also other health problems such as immobility and refusal to eat, all of which lead to the need for full-time care, which overloads the already employed relatives. Relatives consequently also felt feelings of guilt for not being able to take care of loved ones. The matter is facilitated by the fact that nowadays it is very easy to find information and be informed about important matters. In the end, people are happy with the decision, as the elderly are more involved in the society than they would be at home and are provided with adequate medical care 24 hours a day. |
