Abstract

Secondary title: Field Trip to Normandy for Secondary Grammar School Students
Secondary abstract: Modern education, which includes new teaching methods and approaches, brings innovations to teaching of history in schools. Such innovations enable learners to acquire study materials in a more interesting and lasting manner. One of the modern approaches to a holistic and more complex understanding of the study materials are field trips, which in their composition include diverse teaching methods and approaches. These characteristics create a unique learning environment, pleasant for the learners. This Master's thesis, titled "Field Trip to Normandy for Secondary Grammar School Students", shows how to choose locations for a field trip, so that they appropriately interlace with the syllabus and the catalogue of study materials for the matura examination. The thesis focuses on how to include different tasks for students, in order to activate all spectres of modern experiential learning. It also includes a plan for a field trip to Normandy that covers nearly all historical eras. The plan consists of diverse selection of tasks and challenges that enable students to assimilate and refresh their knowledge. Field trips also positively affect students from the perspective of building social bonds, practising teamwork and discovering the surroundings, foreign cities and countries. It broadens students' horizons and helps them overcome potential stereotypes.
