Abstract

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂrole of nurses in ensuring quality of life of adolescents with Tourette syndrome
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Tourette's syndrome is a neurodevelopment disorder with a diverse etiology characterized by chronic vocal and motor tics which last at least one year. In many cases Tourette syndrome can represesent a difficult, confusing and stigmatic condition for patients. Purpose: The purpose of work is to investigate the impact of Tourette's on the quality of life of adolescents. We were also interested in problems and emotions they face in social, economic and educational environment, due to the disorders. We also wanted to investigate which nurse interventions can help to better coping with the problems. Methods: In thesis, the descriptive research method was used  review of Slovene and foreign literature was conducted The search of articles was carried out using electronic browers (ScienceDirect, PubMed) and database CINAHL. We included 18 articles. Results: We found that Tourette's syndrome affects the lives of adolescents, as they are often excluded from society, have problems with making new friends, low self esteem, are depressed and anxious. Supportive environmennt which include emotional, appropriate, educational and focused help can overcome challenges and problems faced by patients. Discussion and conclusion: The results show that adolescents have psychosocial consequences. The disease also affects close people, which are most often parents, who eventually become burdened and as a result, family relationships are ruined. The role of nurse is important in raising awareness of the environment, providing support to patient and their close ones, through consistent observance of patients and continuous education in this field.
