zaključna naloga
Abstract

Using an Accelerometer to Characterize the Influence of Vibrations on the Measuring System |
Secondary abstract: |
In this thesis piezoelectric measurements of vibrations of a room with a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) are presented. When performing scanning tunneling microscopy, a sharp conductive tip that must be kept at a constant distance from the sample and the microscope has to be mechanically as separate from the surroundings as much as possible in order to achieve maximum resolution.
First, functionality check over a broad frequency range was performed. Next, the influence of forced vibrations to the STM table under various conditions was investigated. In order to dampen externally induced vibrations, pneumatic table-legs were used. Our experiments have shown that the use of pneumatic legs decreases vibrations up to \SI{10}{dB}. In addition, an increase of \SI{10}{dB} in vibration intensity was detected after using a rotary or turbo pump. |
