Abstract

Secondary title: The use of propaganda to spread of nazy ideology in Germany during 1933 to 1945
Secondary abstract: The diploma thesis explores the use of propaganda by the Nazis as a key instrument of gaining, maintaining and spreading political power and National Socialist ideology in Germany between 1933 and 1945. The goal of the dissertation is to study how the Nazis built a propaganda machine that convinced several sections of the German population of the urgency of a terrible war. First we research the use of Hitler’s book My Struggle in Nazi Propaganda. We found that Nazi propaganda took over the themes of anti-Semitism, anti-communism, and racial eugenics from Hitler’s book, while following Hitler’s rules for building effective propaganda campaigns, also expressed in the book. What follows is a discussion of censorship and complete control of the mass media by the Nazis to persuade the German population in support of the war. Finally, we identified the propaganda techniques used by the Nazis in spreading propaganda and explored how they changed language, harsh political rhetoric, symbolism, and humiliated Jews to increase the sense of belonging to a national community among the German population.
