Abstract

Secondary abstract: Up to now female entrepreneurship in Slovenia has become more and more common in everyday life. We can meet female entrepreneurs everywhere. However we rarely wonder how these women have become entrepreneurs and what they have had to encounter on their path. My thesis focuses on female entrepreneurs in the region of Goriška, more exactly on the motives for their choice, as well as the obstacles they meet in their professional life. The above mentioned region is very small and thus there is almost no literature about it. Seven female entrepreneurs from the region have been questioned and their answers have led to certain findings. Mostly they are driven by a strong will and entering the world of entrepreneurship was a conscious decision. Although their choice for an independent profession is sometimes a consequence of unemployment or problems finding a job, most of them know exactly, what they want and dedicate themselves entirely to that. They persistently fight the obstacles that always appear. They need to successfully manage their family and professional life, as the female contribution to family life is still not equal to the proportion of the male contribution. The family may be sometimes an obstructing factor that takes away the energy needed for working and thus has a negative impact on the entrepreneurship. The family's understanding, support and help is very important, especially from the partner's side. Female entrepreneurs also miss more support from the government, the local environment and the possibility of organized networking. This lack of encouragement and support is one of the big obstacles, as they need to find solutions and opportunities that would not be necessary with an exsisting common organization. Their second biggest problem that they have mentioned are the finances. Despite everything, female entrepreneurs are saddisfied with their decision and they do not regret their choice of becoming entrepreneurs.
