Abstract

Secondary abstract: The trend of European integration has, especially in recent years, when the European Union is filled with content that go well beyond just economic, put the question of a common European identity into foreground. European integration is increasingly taking place in the direction of promoting European identity and European identity formation. European integration has been built as a matter of elites and it justified its existence, operation and expansion mainly with economic efficiency. However it is no longer so, because it has gradually caused increasing impact on the lives of individuals and thus became dependent on the support of its citizens and the establishment of closer links between the states in terms of identification with Europe. This identification, or European identity is an important aspect for further development and overcoming all the crises of the European Union. In this thesis we highlighted and analyzed European identity and community-based population with a visible emphasis on building and maintaining identity, especially during the crisis of the European Union. We assume that the conditions, necessary for the existence of a common identity at this time greatly diminished as emotions, behaviour and attitudes towards important questions about identity in these times of crisis weaken. The existence of a European identity is possible only on the basis of shared values and knowledge, and in times of crisis, it is necessary for the European Union to emphasize the importance of establishing effective mechanism that lead us to this, and that we are aware of the fact that we are European citizens with a common, collective European identity, and that a long period of time was needed to build it, and that it should not be neglected in times of crisis, because other features of the crisis period in the European Union can be surmounted through awareness the common identity.
