Abstract

Secondary title: Career barriers for woman in management
Secondary abstract: In the modern world, men and women are supposed to be equal, as we have equal rights and duties. However, this is often not the case. In the career world, especially in management, women still face obstacles that are often different from those faced by men, and they are especially placed higher, which makes them so much harder to get around. Career barriers, however, have been much higher for women in the past. The road to today's situation has been a long one, but much effort is still needed to ensure that women in the workplace are truly equal. The times when a woman was considered merely a wife and mother are a thing of the past, as we know that women are not only able to work, but also do their job with quality. This does not only apply to less demanding jobs, but also to management positions. Women managers prove that with discipline and ambition it is possible to achieve the same or even more than men achieve. Yet along the way, they face obstacles that are spared to their male counterparts. Only when they break through the glass ceiling, reconcile career with family, and overcome stereotypes they get a chance to prove themselves. So determination is needed for success. However, women are not the only ones who have the opportunity to reduce barriers. Such a policy must also be taken care of by companies, and legislation also helps. There are so many inclinations towards equality, and we can expect more and more in the future. Despite the fact that we are in the right direction towards equality, this has not yet been achieved, as in principle women still have to make more efforts to climb the managerial pyramid.
