Abstract

Malčki imajo branje radi in ob pozitivnih izkušnjah kažejo veliko zanimanje zanj.

Secondary title: The Development of Family Literacy among Toddlers
Secondary abstract: The purpose of the final work entitled The Development of Family Literacy among Toddlers is to encourage joint reading and multigenerational participation within the family environment. For this purpose, we cite a wide range of high-quality children's literature and a range of family literacy activities. Through our work we want to raise awareness and empower parents and the adults important to the child about the essentiality of family literacy and its value for the child's development. In the theoretical part, we introduce the concept of family literacy and its role in children's development. Then we touch on the building blocks of reading literacy and the skills a toddler is supposed to acquire within them. We define a picture book and list the starting points that we can use when looking for quality picture books works. In the research we used the descriptive method, the method of classification, the method of analysis, the method of synthesis, the comparative method and the method of practical work. In the practical part of the diploma thesis, we performed a multimodal analysis of four selected picture books. This is followed by six summaries of the activities carried out on a non-contingency sample of three toddlers and a description of the children's responses. We emphasise the holistic picture book reading model. We find out that toddlers, in the presence of adults who are important to them, are happy to participate in family literacy activities. This requires adjustments according to the child's development. We look for quality work and actively involve the child in activities. Toddlers love reading and show a keen interest in it through positive experiences.
