Abstract

Optične komunikacije so najbolj zaželena in zanesljiva oblika komunikacije. Dodatno sta omenjena vzrok težav in način preprečevanja ponovnega nastajanja enakih problemov.

Secondary title: Optical network aging and degradation
Secondary abstract: Optical communications are currently the most desirable and the most reliable form of communication. For the time being, this form of communication is more than enough to satisfy the needs of an ever-increasing modern internet data traffic. Plethora of scientists and professors are of opinion that the optical networks in use today will continue satisfying the needs of the humanity for quite some time. This work presents the active and passive equipment used by the optical networks as well as the measuring equipment. After that, I present the ways to predict how long an optical network is going to be functional and the life cycle of an optical fiber using the Weibull distribution. Finally, I compare the results of old and new measurements preformed on an optical link. I described the process of troubleshooting the optical network. Furthermore, I explain the cause of difficulties and prevention of the same problems from reoccurring.
