Abstract

Glavni namen diplomske naloge je primerjava delovanja SQLite, MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL in Microsoft SQL sistemov za upravljanje podatkovnih baz (SUPB). Ugotovitve so namenjene lažjemu odločanju, kateri SUPB je primernejši za uporabo za določene potrebe. Analizirali smo hitrost poizvedb na tisoč, 10 tisoč, 100 tisoč, milijon in 10 milijonih podatkih iz realnega sveta. Iskali smo numerični ID, vrednosti večje od števila, ključne besede treh različnih dolžin v kratkem in dolgem besedilu in iskali vsebino med datumoma. Vsak test smo izvedli 10-krat in izračunali povprečni čas izvajanja. Zgornja meja testa je bila 60 sekund. V poizvedbah z iskanjem numeričnih vrednosti se je najbolje brez indeksa in z njim odrezal Microsoft SQL, pri poizvedbah z besedilom pa PostgreSQL.

Secondary title: Query comparison between different database management systems
Secondary abstract: Main objective of this thesis is benchmarking of relational database management systems, such as SQLite, MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL. Results are meant to be used to easier determined which RDBMS is better for specific needs. Our analyses were done on thousand, 10 thousand, 100 thousand, 1 million and 10 million data. Performed tests were: searching for numerical ID, values greater than some number, key words of three different lengths in short and long text and searching between two dates. Every test has been done and measured 10 times and average time has been used. Upper limit was 60 seconds. For query with numerical values, Microsoft SQL was the fastest with index and without it, for text values PostgreSQL was performing the fastest.
