(diplomsko delo)
Abstract
Izvedeni sta bili vsebinska analiza in sinteza ugotovitev.

Quality of life in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common type of leukemia in the western world. Due to prolonged life expectancy of the patients thanks to medical progression, it is of utmost importance for them to spend it as fulfilling as possible. This project focuses on factors that may affect the patients' quality of life.
Methods: The research has been conducted using a systematic review of scientific literature, which has been found in the following online databases: PubMed, CINAHL, ScienceDirect and Cochrane Library, using an applicable search string. The selected results were critically analyzed using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools. The results were analyzed using content analysis.
Results: Out of 12 selected articles, 9 reported factors in the physical functioning aspect, such as: fatigue, appetite loss, unintentional weight loss, nausea, vomiting and risk of infection. Mental factors, reported by 8 sources, include: depression, anxiety, cancer speciffic stress, sadness and apathy, while feeling of loss of independence and cancer stigmatisation, as reported by 2 articles, negatively affect social functioning. 2 articles focus on economic factors, such as the cost of hospitalisation, therapy and adverse effect management.
Discussion and conclusion: In order to maintain an appropriate level of quality of life, the nurse must provide both educational and emotional support to the patient and their family based on those findings, while regularly updating and expanding their own knowledge in the field. Due to absence of studies focusing on interpersonal relationships and sexuality in CLL patients, conducting more research on the topic while focusing solely on CLL patients might be needed. |
