Abstract

V magistrskem delu sta obravnavana dva sodobna romana: Cesta Cormaca McCarthyja (2006) in Luknje Andreja Blatnika (2020). Prvi del zajema življenje in delo obeh avtorjev ter kratko vsebino romanov, nato sta podrobneje predstavljena literarnovedna pojma antiutopija in postapokalipsa.

Secondary abstract: The master’s thesis considers two contemporary novels: The Road by Cormac McCarthy (2006) and Luknje (Holes) by Andrej Blatnik (2020). The first part of the thesis encompasses the life and work of both authors and a short summary of each novel, then two literary terms, anti-utopia and post-apocalypse, are presented in depth. The first can be used to characterize Holes and the other The Road. Furthermore, there is also an elucidation of the the conceptual predecessors of the two terms: utopia and apocalypse. What follows is an explanation into whether and why the chosen novels could be attributed one or the other literary concept. The second part of the thesis uses a comparative analysis to establish similarities and differences between the novels. The emphasis is on the protagonists of both novels or the pair moving forward, or the destination the pair aspires to achieve in each individual novel. The analysis also touches upon the motif of the child, who leaves a sense of hope in both novels.
