Abstract

Moje raziskovalne ugotovitve so, da so ženske v intimnopartnerskem odnosu doživljale stopnjevanje nasilja v času zaprtja, a so ga vse doživljale že pred tem.

Secondary title: Intimate partner violence against women under Covid-19 epidemic lockdown and children as witnesses
Secondary abstract: The thesis is focused on intimate partner violence during Covid-19. Family members are closed in their homes due to Covid-19 measures, and due to the stress that the epidemic causes it escalates even more in families where violence occurred before. Another problem with the lockdown in the country is that a woman is rarely alone and cannot seek help in the way she would if there were no epidemic. Institutions continue to function smoothly during the epidemic as the violence caused by the Covid-19 epidemic does not stop, so it is very important that during this time the institutions advertise their services and programmes and let victims of intimate partner violence know that they are available to them in times of need. During Covid-19, some new forms of violence have also developed while those already entrenched and most common types of violence have become even more violent and cruel. Intimate partner violence also includes children who are even more exposed to witness violence against their mothers during Covid-19. Studies of adverse childhood experiences have repeatedly shown that the mere testimony of a child to violence produces severe and lasting consequences. Those children especially need help since, like women, they are alone and without their allies during Covid-19 epidemic. I conducted a qualitative research on the topic of intimate partner violence against women under the Covid-19 lockdown. I used the interview method for data collection and analysed the data qualitatively. I was interested in the experiences of women who were victims of intimate partner violence during the Covid-19 closure as well as in the topic of the child as a witness to such violence, the responses of the institutions to the needs of those women and the possibilities to improve the speed of such institutional response. My research findings are that women in an intimate partnership experienced an escalation of violence at the time of as well as before the lockdown. The female victims of the violence had difficulties in their access to help as the measures forced everyone to stay at home. Children were more exposed to witnessing violence during the quarantine and had only their mother to turn to for help.
