Abstract

Secondary title: The role of the nurse in the medical treatment of patients with deep vein thrombosis
Secondary abstract: Introduction: deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot clogs a vein that lies deep inside. Deep vein thrombosis is manifested by swelling, pain, varicose veins on the affected limb, and erythema. The purpose of the literature review is to investigate the role of the nurse in the medical treatment and medical education of a patient with deep vein thrombosis. Methods: we used a systematic review of the literature with the method of review, analysis and synthesis of professional and scientific literature and the method of compilation. We searched the literature based on a research question and followed the guidelines according to PRISMA, we evaluated the articles with the Joanna Brihggs Institutes evaluation tool and for the synthesis of articles we made steps of thematic analysis. Results: based on the analysis of 6 studies, 4 subcategories were highlighted. The subcategories highlighted for the role of nurse are assessing the risk of developing DVT, advising the patient on the prevention of DVT and preventing complications, motivating physical activity and encouraging getting out of bed as soon as possible, using compression and compression devices. Discussion and conclusion: the nurse instruct the patient about the symptoms that indicates deep vein thrombosis and assesses the patient's risk of developing it. To prevent the development of deep vein thrombosis, the nurse helps the patient to get out of bed as soon as possible and helps or encourages him to physical activity. The nurse must be able to handle mechanical compression devices and be able to properly install compression bandages and socks.
