Abstract

Secondary title: Intercultural education on primary education level and intercultural competences of future teachers
Secondary abstract: Intercultural upbringing and education help the pupil develop into an individual that maintains his or her cultural identity while respecting and connecting to members of foreign culture, develops his or her general intercultural ability and acquires intercultural competence to function better in the modern society (Sedmak in Ženko, 2010). The teacher thus plays a decisive role in intercultural education. In the master's thesis we present an empirical research on intercultural sensitivity and the possession of intercultural competence of future teachers. The research was conducted among 111 students of the Faculty of Education, majoring in Primary Education Studies in the academic year of 2020/21. We had been interested in the knowledge and use of interculturality, and intercultural sensitivity of respondents, intercultural competence and education of future teachers, the impact of intercultural education and the actual state of inclusion of these contents in primary schools, as well as methods of work. The results of the research showed that future teachers mostly understand the concept of interculturality and perceive it as a cooperation among members of different cultures. The surveyed teachers are interculturally sensitive and agree that intercultural education has a great impact on life. The results also show that the surveyed students understand the role of an interculturally competent teacher and assess themselves as such, even though more than half did not learn about interculturality during their studies. Students feel the need for additional education. Students also believe that the school subject Society and learning about the environment does not cover enough goals in the field of interculturality, and the vast majority did not encounter the inclusion of intercultural content in their practical training.
