Abstract

Secondary abstract: The COVID-19 epidemic has changed our lives for some time. Because of that, media coverage has also changed. It is important to know that any long period in which the world’s population is disturbed also leaves behind some consequences and changes. That is why it can change the way people are representing and self representing to the society and public speakers are no exception to that. When they are giving a speech, one can recognize their means of persuasion, and so can their audiences. Therefore, we analyzed speeches of Miroslav Cerar and Tomaž Barada on the example of a charity event hosted by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia, one took place before the COVID-19 epidemic and the other during it. Our findings do not prove that the COVID-19 epidemic affected the speakers’ ethos, pathos, and logos, but it may be a good starting point for further similar research. However, in our analysis we found that the analyzed speakers in their speeches have had differed in the use of persuasive means in different periods, although not to a large extent. Our further findings were that both speakers in both periods did not understandably divide their speeches into introduction, core, and conclusion and that we found errors in the arguments in both speakers and their speeches. Our findings will serve to further explore the topic of media appearances in different periods, as others will be able to compare our findings with their own.
