Abstract

Secondary title: An analysis of a physical exercise programme promoting a healthy lifestyle at the kindergarten Pobrežje
Secondary abstract: This undergraduate dissertation presents the theoretical aspect of pre-schoolers' physical and motor development and the effect of aerobic and anaerobic exercise on the development of their motor and functional abilities. It also presents the PREFIT measurement protocol. The intent was to analyse and determine whether the healthy lifestyle-promoting exercise program impacts children's motor and functional abilities, and whether progress differs across genders. The study was conducted using the experimental method. Data was gathered quantitatively using the PREFIT standardized measurement procedure, which was used to determine the children's motor and functional abilities; the latter were measured at the start and end of the exploratory innovative social benefit project titled BODY - the Instrument that Can Break Down. The research sample included 157 children from the Pobrežje Kindergarten aged from 3 to 6; they were split randomly into a control group and experimental group; 102 of them performed both the initial and final measurements, which were then included in the statistical treatment. Based on the results, we determined that the exercise program promoting the healthy lifestyle impacts children's motor and functional abilities. As relates the differences in progress according to gender, a statistically significant difference was measured in two motor skills, while no significant difference occured in the other two.
