Abstract

Secondary title: Feasibility analysis for abolishing garbage collection at collection points for single-dwelling houses in maribor
Secondary abstract: The quantities of garbage are increasing from one year to the next and it is us individuals who can significantly contribute to reducing garbage generation with appropriate garbage management. Our goal is to reduce as much as possible the amount of garbage that cannot be recycled or reused. Garbage collection is also affected by the method of its collection. We established that collection points (also called “ecological islands”), which are a very common way of collecting garbage in Slovenia, have significant shortcomings. The containers at collection points are often overfilled and can become a target for vandals. What is more, the rotting garbage spreads offensive smell. Containers directly affect and worsen visual appearance of the town, whilst garbage is improperly separated. In the bachelor’s thesis, we present the theoretical and legal starting points regarding garbage collection. To tackle this issue, we propose introducing a method for transporting waste paper and glass by using the door-to-door system. In the practical part of the thesis, we present an analysis and comparison of mileage, time spent on garbage collection, emissions 〖CO〗_2 and fuel costs for the garbage collection company Snaga Maribor. We also compare the current method of garbage collection with the proposed solution. After presenting the completed feasibility analysis for introducing the solution, we propose it is implemented despite the increased costs it brings, since its advantages would have a very positive impact on the quality of garbage collection, the visual appearance of the town and, ultimately, the quality of life of its inhabitants.
