Abstract

Naredili smo pregled slovenske in angleške strokovne in znanstvene literature.

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂrole of the nurse in the detection, treatment and prevention of adverse childhood experiences and their consequences in adulthood
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Adverse childhood experiences, in forms such as sexual and physical abuse or neglect in others, so common in childhood pose a great deal of stress with long-lasting adverse effects on the psychophysical health of children that occur in adults. As a result, individuals may be more susceptible to developing various diseases, which affects development and physical health. This is affected by living, accepting and persisting in unhealthy environments. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to present the importance of early detection, treatment and prevention of stressful experiences in childhood and their consequences in adulthood, with an emphasis on the health education work of nurses and preventive activities. Methods: A descriptive method of research work was used. We reviewed Slovenian and English professional and scientific literature. The search was performed using electronic databases: MedLine (EBSCOhost), CINAHL with Full text, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library and COBISS.SI. We also used the PubMed search engine and the World Wide Web search - Google Scholar. Access to these databases was obtained through remote access to the digital library of the University of Ljubljana (DiKUL). The period of searching for relevant literature ran from March to June 2021. Results: ACEs are affected by a variety of cultural, social, environmental and economic factors, which in turn affect the health of individuals around the world. Research shows that the links between ACEs and the many mental and behavioral health outcomes in adults are well documented in the literature, proving the need for prevention. Discussion and conclusion: The results show that there is little research in this area in Slovenia, the first survey here, was conducted in 2019, while abroad they have been facing this issue since 1995, when the first Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-Kaiser study was conducted. People are not aware enough of how strongly certain adverse/harmful factors in childhood can affect an individual's development and adulthood. Therefore, this problem needs to be researched in Slovenia and exposed to the general public and professional services.
