Abstract

Rastline so vir hrane za številne organizme, med drugim tudi za rastlinske patogene. Patogeni povzročajo razvoj bolezni rastlin, s čimer zmanjšujejo letno proizvodnjo rastlinskega pridelka. Patogeni se razvijajo in postajajo odporni na tradicionalne načine njihovega zatiranja, zato potrebujemo nove metode, da ohranimo dovoljšno količino hrane za vse organizme. Interakcija med patogeni in rastlinami se dogaja tudi na nivoju malih RNA, med katere sodijo tudi mikro RNA. Z njimi lahko potencialno pridemo do cilja, ki je zvišanje odpornosti rastlin na patogene na okolju prijazen način. Mikro RNA vpliva na fiziološko zgradbo rastline, morfologijo in predvsem na obrambni mehanizem. Obrambno delujejo s posttranskripcijskim mehanizmom utišanja informacijske RNA, ki so lahko tudi patogenskega izvora. Odkrili so, da se mikro RNA nahaja tudi v patogenih organizmih, ki pa imajo obraten učinek od gostiteljskih, in sicer zavirajo izražanje obrambnih genov rastline. Nove tehnologije z uporabo mikro RNA nas lahko privedejo do zadostnega in trajnostnega prehranjevalnega sistema.

Secondary title: Study of micro RNA mediated plant-pathogen interactions
Secondary abstract: Plants are a source of food for countless organisms, which includes plant pathogens. Pathogens are the cause of plant disease, which reduces the yearly plant produce. Pathogens are constantly evolving and becoming resistant to traditional ways of suppression like the use of pesticides. That is why we need new methods and solutions to produce sustainable food system. We discovered small RNA and with them micro RNA, which might be an answer for our problem. Our goal is to raise plant resistance to pathogens, whilst doing as little harm to the environment as possible. Micro RNA effects plant physiology, morphology and defense mechanism. Their defense pathway includes posttranscription messenger RNA silencing mechanism that can silence the transcription of pathogen messenger RNA. It was found that pathogen micro RNA has the opposite effect of host micro RNA and it silences the expression of plant defense genes. The new technology using micro RNA can lead us to a sufficient and sustainable food system.
