Abstract

Secondary title: Influence of different colours of anti-hail nets on the yield and quality of hops (humulus lupulus l.)
Secondary abstract: Occasional storms with strong winds and hail can cause big economical losses in hop garden plantations. With anti-hail nets, hop gardens can be protected from crop loss and meet the agreed contractual quantities. A field trials were conducted in 2019 at the Jelen farm in Dobriša vas in the Savinjska valley, where the impact of anti-hail nets on the quantity and quality of hops (alpha acid content) was studied. The experiment was carried out at a standard Aurora plantation (2.4 m between rows, 1 m in a row), and a 7.2 m high wooden pole and wire system was set up for supporting the plants. The experiment had four treatments: 1. black nets, 2. white nets, 3. blue nets, and 4. no nets or control. We set it up in the form of a random block in six repetitions. The nets placed above the hop plants did not hinder the implementation of agrotechnical measures at the plantation. Based on the results, it can be concluded, that anti-hail nets do not significantly affect the amount of hop yield. Black nets showed a trend of increasing alpha acid content compared to other net colours and the control set up.
