Abstract

Ladijski transport je primarna oblika transporta svetovne trgovine, preko ladij trgovske mornarice se namreč odvije do 90 % svetovne trgovine. Ocenjuje se, da je ladijski promet odgovoren za približno 2,6 % letnih svetovnih emisij CO₂, kar znese 938 milijonov ton. Te številke pa bi se lahko brez sprememb v okoljski politiki do leta 2050 povečale od 50 % do 250 %. Poleg emisij toplogrednega ogljikovega dioksida ladijski promet povzroča tudi druge zdravju in okolju škodljive emisije. V diplomski nalogi je predstavljen okoljski odtis ladijskega prometa in nekatere rešitve za zmanjšanje onesnaževanja s škodljivimi izpusti. Hkrati so izpostavljeni tudi zakonodaja, predpisi in ukrepi, ki urejajo ladijske izpuste. Opisani so negativni vplivi ladijskih emisij na okolje in zdravje ljudi ter nekateri tehnični ukrepi, ki se v pomorstvu uporabljajo za zmanjšanje teh negativnih vplivov. Poleg tehničnih ukrepov, ki do neke mere očistijo izpušne pline škodljivih emisij, bo za doseg dolgoročnih ciljev zmanjšanja emisij v pomorstvu potrebna uporaba drugačnih, nizkoogljičnih in ogljično nevtralnih goriv.

Secondary abstract: World trade depends heavily on the transportation of goods by sea. Over 90% of cargo in world trade is transported using ships, producing approximately 2,6% of annual CO2 emissions. That comes to 938 million tonnes of this greenhouse gas. Without any change in the global shipping environmental policy, these numbers could increase by 50% and even up to 250%. Ships also produce a whole host of other pollutants which are harmful to humans and the environment. I wrote about these pollutants and their negative effects in my thesis. I also wrote about some of the technical solutions for reducing harmful emissions, the legal aspects and regulations regarding the emissions from ships and plans for reducing greenhouse emissions from ships. If we want to meet the long term goals of reducing emissions in the maritime sector the industry will have to switch to using low carbon and carbon-neutral fuels in the future.
