Abstract

Secondary title: Evaluation of the mental stress on health care workers employed in a social health care organization in Austria
Secondary abstract: Introduction: In recent decades, the working environment has changed, which has also affected working conditions within social health organizations. The high level of mental strain in the workplace entails additional costs. The issue of psychological stress has therefore been placed at the center of employee protection. Methods: Quantitative methodology was used. The research instrument was a verified questionnaire for the analysis of mental stress in the workplace, completed by 163 respondents. Hypotheses were statistically processed with the SPSS program, V27.0. Results: Employees are very satisfied with the scope of work, abilities in the workplace and organizational climate, qualitative stressors and environmental pressures have a minimal impact. There is no difference in the level of psychological burden from the point of view of the organizational climate with regard to age and the difference from the point of view of the scope of work with regard to the level of education. There is no statistically significant difference between the variables quantitative stressors and gender (U = 1637,50; p = 0,12), nor between the variables length of service and aspect of working capacity (rs = 0,09, p = 0,23). Discussion and conclusion: Respondents define the work environment as mentally stress-free and report minimal psychological stress in the workplace. It is crucial that the manager recognizes the factors of workload, knows how to evaluate them, determine preventive measures and is aware that good working conditions ensure an appropriate level of quality of working life.
