diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Informacijska varnost
Abstract

Application of technology to impact outcome in sport |
Secondary abstract: |
The diploma thesis presents technology in sports and its growing influence and development. More precisely, baseball and American football are presented, and their respective professional leagues in the United States, where without technology it is virtually impossible to achieve top results that bring huge profits. Such progress has offered both players and spectators a whole new perspective on the sport and made it even more widely available. Thanks to the ever-improving cameras in the stadiums, players can analyze their every move at any given moment from several angles, which of course brings better results. But certain actors in the sport have decided to exploit the technology in an illegal way and thus take even more advantage of it. Obtaining information about tactics with the help of one's own knowledge and experience on the field is not against the rules, or doing so is considered extremely ingenious. But the use of technology to gain such an advantage in real time on the court is strictly prohibited. The limits of what is allowed in the use of technology are not yet precisely defined, and at the same time the penalties are inappropriately low depending on what advantage like this can bring. It was the Houston Astros Baseball Club and the New England Patriots American Football Club that used their modern video systems not only to improve themselves on the playing field, but also to spy on opposing teams. Both clubs achieved top results in that period. At the top level, the differences between the teams are small and any illegally obtained information can help on the pitch and bring great results. Especially in the United States, clubs at the top are making huge profits, so better results only increase them. |
