Abstract

Secondary title: Chemical kinetics of some nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere
Secondary abstract: Nitrogen oxides are important pollutants mainly due to their influence on the formation of harmful tropospheric ozone, the decomposition of beneficial stratospheric ozone and the formation of acid rain. They are formed from anthropological and natural sources and are then converted in the atmosphere by chemical reactions. The most important nitrogen oxides are nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which are converted into each other and are denoted by the common equation as NOx. In the troposphere, most nitrogen oxides are formed during the combustion process, while in the stratosphere, the main source is nitrous oxide (N2O). In this work, I studied the reaction of nitrogen oxides with ozone and the rate of this reaction at different altitudes, using the equations for chemical kinetics. Then, based on calculations, I determined how the rate of ozone depletion changes with altitude.
