Abstract

Secondary abstract: Community policing focuses on solving problems inside a community by establishing good communications. An officer is for an unknown time part of the community, whose job is to identify problems, establish communications and create strong bonds with residents. An important aspect of such police work is also police visibility, which has an important role in controlling fear of crime and trust in police among residents. The most important aspect of police visibility are foot patrols, which increase the feeling of police presence and openness of police. In this work we study the importance of foot patrols. We were interested in how much they influence in trust in police and their perceived success. We were also interested in whether there is a difference between observed foot patrols in different types of settlements. For this reason, a survey was conducted among students of Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security. Results show, that there is no statistically significant connection between observed foot patrols and trust in police or their perceived success. We also find, that there are no statistically significant differences in observed foot patrols in different types of settlements.
