Abstract

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂuse of transcranial magnetic stimulation in rehabilitation in patients with ischaemic stroke
Secondary abstract: Stroke is a significant cause of disability. It is a long-term neurological disorder caused to adults, affecting up to 76% of patients with acute stroke. Rehabilitation itself is highly demanding long-term process. Without any other option, the patient could be given a better and longer life with less disability. As a promising tool for the clinical rehabilitation of patients after a stroke, new non-invasive brain stimulation is emerging – transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). It is a safe method with rare and mild side effects that can be combined with other methods. Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is capable of directly manipulating cortical brain activity. In the last few years, we have come to terms with a new potential method for treating motoric functions, speech, swallowing, and attention deficit disorder. The research results prove that positive impact is obtained by improving motoric functions on the hemiplegic side, aphasia, dysphagia and manual skills. There are still many open questions that need to be answered in future research.
