diplomsko delo
Abstract

ǂThe ǂuse of adapted clothing for people with motor impairment |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: Clothing plays an important role in every person's life. For most people, choosing and buying clothes is easy. For people with motor impairment the act of shopping for clothes is especially difficult or even impossible. The group of functional clothing includes clothing adapted for people with reduced abilities, including children and adolescents with motor impairment. Purpose: This thesis researched parents' experiences with dressing children and adolescents with mobility problems; it focused especially on the use of adapted clothing. Methods: A quantitative research approach was used. A questionnaire compiled at the University Rehabilitation Institute of the Republic of Slovenia – Soča was distributed to parents of children and adolescents with motor impairment who met the inclusion criteria. Results: The survey questionnaire was properly filled in by 33 parents. Most children and adolescents participating in the study were diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The research showed that half of the parents of children and adolescents with motor impairment have already bought adapted clothing in a store, online, or second hand. A third of the parents adjust their clothes at home, and a few use the services of a seamstress. Most of the parents answered that they would attend a class on adjusting clothes during rehabilitation at URI – Soča. Most of the parents would also like to participate in a parent group to share experiences or exchange clothes in a home environment. Discussion and conclusion: When comparing the results obtained in the research with studies from abroad, it was found that the authors cite similar results. Ordinary clothing usually does not meet all the needs of people with motor impairment; therefore, they face many difficulties in carrying out dressing activities. Dressing-related problems can be reduced by designing adapted clothing which facilitates the performance of activities. Specially tailored clothing can encourage people to perform activities independently and the independent performance of activities improves their involvement. By participating in a class on adjusting clothes during rehabilitation at URI – Soča, parents would gain the skills and knowledge of adjusting clothes to the needs of their children. Parents also suggested a store that would offer adapted clothing for children. |
