Abstract

Quality of life of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis on biological therapy |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: In a decade, patients with rheumatoid arthritis have been able to live an active and quality life using biological therapy, despite an unpleasant diagnosis. There are many dilemmas connected with biological therapy that patients with rheumatoid arthritis find challenging to decide on. The purpose of the final work is to ascertain how treatment with biologic drugs affects the quality of life of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Methods: We used a descriptive method. We performed a narrative review of the scientific and professional literature on the topic. As a tool for assessing the quality of articles, we used hierarchy of evidence pyramid and presented the characteristics of the identified studies in tables. We answered the research question used the content analysis and synthesis method.…………………………. Results: After a content analysis of nine articles, we found that rheumatoid arthritis patients exhibit high satisfaction with biological therapy. Improvements are present in physical and emotional well-being. Severe fatigue has been reported in rheumatoid arthritis patients on biological therapy. This is present despite regulation of the disease, which means that biological therapy does not necessarily reduce all problems and in some cases is itself the cause of a health problem as a side effect. Discussion and conclusion: Despite fatigue as the most common adverse reaction of biological medicines, we note the beneficial impact of biological therapy on the quality of life of rheumatoid arthritis patients. It is important that patients with rheumatoid arthritis, who are often young people, are well aware of the limitations and improvements in quality of life. Only then will they be able to make the right decisions about the treatment. |
