Abstract

V diplomskem delu smo opisali značilnosti staranja, krvni tlak in njegovo merjenje, v nadaljevanju pa podrobneje predstavili visok krvni tlak, njegove bolezenske znake in vzroke, posledice in zdravljenje visokega krvnega tlaka.

Secondary title: Awareness of older people about concequences of high blood pressure
Secondary abstract: High blood pressure is a dominant chronical disease, especially with older people. It implies a lot of risk, because it is a dominant factor in the appearance of other cardiovascular diseases and premature mortality. We examined the characteristics of aging, blood pressure and its measurement. Later on during our work, high blood pressure, its symptoms and causes, consequences and treatment are presented more thoroughly. We stressed health education and the role of nurses in raising the awareness of high blood pressure and commitment to the importance of improving that treatment. In the empirical work, we presented the results of a research that was conducted in May 2009. An anonymous survey questionnaire of fifty randomly selected elder people was done in nursing station Majšperk. The purpose of the study was to determine how older people are informed about high blood pressure, its consequences and whether older people are committed to healthy and quality lifestyle. The survey results show that the older people are more informed about high blood pressure, than we imagined. Nevertheless, we still wish to obtain more information about high blood pressure and about how to live a quality life despite that frequent problem.
