Abstract

Secondary title: Stigmatisation of adolescents weith self-harm behavior from students
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Self-injurious behavior often occurs nowadays, especially in adolescents. It is a topic that is not talked about enough, which leads to the emergence of stigma towards those who use this act, both by the general population and by health professionals. The negative behavior of health professionals has a strong impact on adolescents who self-harm, as it often leads to them not seeking the necessary help. Methods: We used a descriptive method of work in the theoretical part, and data for the research were collected with the help of a questionnaire. We surveyed students of health sciences and students of other fields of study at UM. Results: 139 students participated in the survey, of which 57 % of students attend the field of study of health sciences, and 43 % of students attend other fields of study. We found that 9 % of nursing students and 16 % of students in other fields of study would deliberately try to avoid adolescents with self-injurious behavior. Discussion and conclusion: In our research, we found that the attitude of health science students is slightly better towards adolescents who self-harm than students of other sciences. We also found that male students are more likely to stigmatize adolescents who self-harm. We believe that more should be said about self-harm and that more research should be done on this topic.
