Abstract

V diplomskem delu sta predstavljena pojma smrti in evtanazije s sociološkega, pravnega in etičnega vidika.

Secondary title: Euthanasia and medical nurse
Secondary abstract: In my diploma the notions of death and euthanasia are presented from the sociological, legal and ethical point of view. Different kinds of euthanasia are described, standpoints of different countries around the world concerning euthanasia are presented, reasons for and against euthanasia are indicated. The role and activity of Hospic are also included. Above all things the diploma is focused on palliative medical care, communication with the dying patient and his relatives, relation of medical nurse to the dying patient and euthanasia. In the empirical part the results of the research, which was done between medical nurses, are presented. The goal of the research was to find out, what opinion the medical nurses have about euthanasia, how well they are acquainted with euthanasia, what are the consequences when performing this procedure, which values directly connected with particular problem (freedom of decision, intangibility of life, aiding a dying patient, sacredness of human life,..) are of biggest importance for the nurses, what is the communication between a nurse and a dying patient. The results from the year 2009 show that if euthanasia would be legalized, most medical nurses would agree with it. The results also show that for them it is not reasonable to keep a person alive by all means, if this person is in a hopeless condition and his wish is to die.
