Determining losses and efficiency of axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor

Abstract

This paper presents the method for determining losses and efficiency of small axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor with surface mounted permanent magnets and double external rotor by using measurements. Losses and efficiency are calculated by using measured electrical input power and mechanical output power. The characteristics obtained by the measurements are in good agreement with analytically calculated results and the results obtained by the finite element method.
