Abstract

Pod izrazom oralno zdravje razumemo stopnjo zdravstvenega stanja zob in ustne votline prebivalcev določenega področja. V empiričnem delu smo predstavili rezultate raziskave, ki smo jo izvedli v Zdravstvenem domu v Mariboru v letu 2010. Podatke smo zbrali s pomočjo anketnega vprašalnika. Sodelovalo je 30 ljudi, starih od 70 do 80 let. Namen raziskave je bil analizirati in opredeliti mnenja starostnikov o njihovem oralnem zdravju in ugotoviti njihov odnos do oralne higiene v vsakdanjem življenju.

Secondary abstract: Under the term of oral health, we understand the level of dental health and mouth of the population of certain area. Factors of specific area influence changes in population’s degree of dental health. In empirical part we have presented results of the research that we have conducted in a health center in Maribor in 2010. We have gathered the data by completing the survey. Thirty people between ages of 70 and 80 participated in the research. The purpose of research was to analyze and define opinions of elderly people about their oral health and to determine their relationship towards oral hygiene in everyday life. Research shows that media (television commercials) had the main impact on importance of cleaning teeth and oral hygiene of elderly people who participated in research. Elderly people grew up in different sociodemographic conditions; dental prevention was at the time in its early beginnings. Half of elderly people who participated in research clean their teeth twice a day. We were also interested to know what presents the greatest obstacle for elderly’s care of oral health and if they have changed their eating habits because of poor teeth. Research shows that 70 percent of participants in research eats mashed, minced or soft food because of teeth, 53 percent of older respondents changed their eating habits for the same reason. Some of the greatest obstacles of taking care of dental health are reduced manual skills, the burden of other diseases, waiting lists for dentists, the dependence on transportation, poor financial situation, and poor eyesight. We know that poor dental health increases risks for general health; it also increases the possibility of infection, reduced chewing function, and consequently impacts the nutrition intake of food. Health education is very important at all ages. Vision of better oral health of elderly population in the future is to provide at least one hygienist on five dentists in five years from now.
