re-integration and development in border regions

Abstract

Most of the indigenous ethnic minorities in contemporary Europe still have to fight for their existence because the level of lawful protection does not cover all the aspects of protection. All the states do not implement their own laws that protect the minorities in their territories. They also do not adjust their administrative and territorial reforms to meet the needs and the interests of ethnic minorities. In general, special rights of indigenous ethnic minorities are not respected as they should be in accordance with the signed treaties and the laws passed by the parliaments in the European Union. This is a continuation of the policies towards minorities that began after World War I. These policies did not change after World War II or after the EU expanded. In this paper the author deals with the situations of Slovene indigenous minorities in Austria, Italy, Hungary, and Croatia.
