Abstract

Secondary title: Influence of psychosocial factors on low back pain
Secondary abstract: Low back pain (LBP) is a big problem in modern society as it affects almost every individual at least once in his life. Nonspecific pain does not have a specific cause and often develops into chronic. Because the cause is unknown, we can determine which individuals are more prone to developing the chronic form based on some psychosocial risk factors. Patients who have poorer mental health, suffer from depression, psychological stress, somatization, and fear are more susceptible to developing nonspecific LBP. The individual's work and social environment also have a significant impact. The more an individual is dissatisfied with the social segment of their life, the more likely they are to develop chronic LBP. With awareness of the influence of psychosocial factors on LBP, we need to design physiotherapy treatment accordingly. Because the treatment of chronic patients is complex and demanding, various multidisciplinary approaches have been developed. Newer approaches based on the biopsychosocial model (BPSM) and treating the patient holistically achieve better results than conventional treatments. With this in mind, we must pay attention to psychosocial risk factors in any patient with nonspecific LBP. Because only in this way can our physiotherapy treatment be successful in the long run.
