Abstract

Rezultati Nismo našli statistično pomembnih razlik med zaposlenimi z daljšo in krajšo delovno dobo glede strinjanja s trditvami o zagotavljanju telesnega in osebnostnega dostojanstva stanovalcev (p>0,05).

Secondary title: Perception and ensuring the dignity of residents in a social walfare institution
Secondary abstract: Introduction Understanding the meaning of human dignity is extremely important in nursing care. It is both a need and a right that should be respected, which is directly reflected in relationships of professionals within the nursing profession to residents. Nevertheless, in practice, this basic human can often be violated. Elderly people living in social care institutions are daily exposed to various situations that pose a threat to their dignity. Methods The research was based on a descriptive and causal-non-experimental method of empirical research, where we used a survey to determine whether nurses in working with the elderly in social care institutions respect their physical and personal dignity. The survey was conducted among employees of six social care institutions of the same organization in Austria, Styria. This is a non-randomized sample that included 105 respondents. Results We did not find statistically significant differences between employees with longer and shorter working experiences in terms of agreeing with the claims about ensuring the physical and personal dignity of residents (p> 0.05). Judging by the results, it can be seen that both of them are implementing it to almost the same extent. We also did not find statistically significant differences between employees with lower and higher levels of education in terms of agreeing with the claims about ensuring the physical dignity of residents (p> 0.05). Both employees with a lower level of education and employees with a higher level of education agree and implement interventions to ensure the physical and personal dignity of residents to a high degree. Discussion and conclusion We found that a lot of research has been conducted on similar topics abroad, while in Slovenia there have been very few. The results of our research show that the participating organizations in Austria have a very high level of respect for human physical and personal dignity and that ensuring this is of great importance for employees.
