Abstract

Secondary abstract: Welfare care of members of the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) is a relatively new functional area within the military organization which deals with individuals, their state of health, needs and well-being. The activities related to the welfare care include a wide spectrum of programmes, namely: medical care, psychological care, social-security care, legal care, spiritual care, sports activities, organized free-time activities and care for families of SAF members. The introduction of this activity results from a finding that welfare care improves efficiency at work during which SAF members are exposed to the above-average level of burden and stress. The further development of the welfare care as one of the most important factors of SAF combat capability has undoubtedly been facilitated by SAF professionalization since its introduction entails a change in a profile of SAF employees, as well as in the intensity of tasks and in the environment in which they are executed. In this process, a similar ROLE, if not more important, is played by the SAF integration into international integrations and, consequently, by the adoption of new international obligations. Care of SAF members in peacekeeping operations and missions, who are active far away from home in an extremely demanding environment, has become a necessity which directly influences their working and combat preparedness, as well as their morale and motivation.
