Abstract

Secondary title: Programming microcontroller for a star tracker
Secondary abstract: In this work I describe the development of a home made star tracker - a mechanism that follows the movement of the sky. I have decided for this project because the professional equipment is very expensive but it is not the only option. The cheaper solution is to make the star tracker by yourself with a relatively low budget. The basic idea is to write code for a microcontroller that controls the stepper motor which moves our camera. The big advantage of professional equipment is their full time accuracy which is something we sacrifice in our solution due to inaccuracies stemming from the way it is built. But in spite of that, our mechanism is still accurate for a few hours which gives us plenty of time to capture photos of very dark deep sky objects.
