(diplomsko delo)
Abstract

Ethics and organ donation |
Secondary abstract: |
This paper work presents the transplantation activity and regarding the fact that there are not enough human organs and tissues for transplantation, we also tried to find out what people think about post-mortem donation.
The concept of ethics is precisely described because this transplantation activity brings out many ethical issues. We also presented the ethical concept of autonomy where a person has the right to decide for himself. A special chapter is dedicated to a presentation of legal basis for organ donation.
The empirical part presents the results of the research carried out in the University Medical Centre Ljubljana – Internal clinic in December 2010. We distributed 100 anonymous questionnaires, 50 of them among medical stuff and 50 to those who do not work in medical service. With these questionnaires, which contained 15 closed and semi-closed questions, we tried to establish if medical stuff was more open to post-mortem donation then other no-medical people; what were the main reasons against the decision for organ donation and what was the influence of the religion.
According to the results, the medical stuff is less willing to donate organs, namely 67% of medical stuff would donate and 73% of non-medical stuff. We also discovered that being well informed is not really a deciding fact when donating organs, whereas religion has an influence and religious people are not so willing to become donators. The research also showed that most of the people thought that a decision about post-mortem donation is strictly personal. |
