Abstract

Teoretična izhodišča: Zgodnja prepoznava zdravstvenega stanja, učinkovito in takojšnje izvajanje temeljnih postopkov oživljanja ter aktiviranje nujne medicinske pomoči (klic 112) so ključni dejavniki verige preživetja po nenadnem obolenju izven bolnišničnega okolja. Že v preteklosti so poudarjali pomen usposabljanja laične populacije.

Secondary title: Knowledge of elderly in the pomurje region about basic life support and use of an automatic external defibrillator
Secondary abstract: Theoretical starting points: Early identification of a health condition, effective and immediate performance of basic life support and activation of emergency medical help (112 emergency call) present key factors in the chain of survival in case of a sudden distress outside hospital environment. In the past, the importance of training laymen was already emphasised as they can only offer and conduct their lay role in the survival chain if they have corresponding competition to do so. Research methodology and methods: Within the theoretical part, we used a descriptive method of work and data collection, a quantitative methodology as well as the philosophy of positivism. A questionnaire was used as a research instrument. We conducted a non-coincidental sampling, where the selective criterion was the age of 65 or more. The research was carried out in a way that we visited people who had fulfilled the criteria at their homes. The data were processed by IBM SPPS tools, using a binomial statistical test and a chi square test. Results: As many as 75 % of the respondents know what is included in BLS, however, only 14 % of them have already encountered the prosecution of resuscitation. Most of them do not consider themselves competent enough to help people in the case of emergency. 34 % of respondents are not familiar with the locations of AEDs. The rest 66 % know the locations of AEDs, however, only 32 % of them would dare to use an AED and only in the presence of another person. Discussion and conclusions: Based on the results we found out that the elderly possess insufficient knowledge in the area of BLS and the use of AED. A positive finding is that more than a half of respondents are willing to be educated on this topic. However, a greater emphasis should be put on motivation and education adapted for the elderly, since they present almost a fifth of the Slovenian population.
