Abstract

SAFETY OF MOTORCYCLIST IN ROAD TRAFFIC |
Secondary abstract: |
In recent years, the amount of registered motorcycles has been steadily increasing. With the growing number, their drivers are getting an ever greater role in road traffic and a large influence on traffic safety. In the last years the Republic of Slovenia has been dedicating more and more funds and time towards the improvement of traffic safety for motorcycle drivers, as well as other participants in traffic. Some results are already visible, as the level of traffic safety in Slovenia is rising, according to information from statistics studies, of course taking in account that the amount of motorcycles is growing.
An important factor which affects the safety of motorcycle drivers, but is not the drivers themselves, is also the road infrastructure, which in some places is still unsuitable and presents a factor of risk. Of course, the (un)safety is also affected by weather conditions, as well as factors on which the driver himself can have an effect. A consistent practice of motorcycle maintenance, inspections and the use of protective equipment, are all very important.
In the frame of the Ministry of the Interior, the Police selects new goals and intentions for the traffic safety of motorcycle drivers, related primarily to the decrease of driver mortality and the amount of heavily wounded, every year. The purpose of traffic safety is especially to establish an equivalent relationship between motorcycle drivers and other participants in traffic.
There are numerous suggested measures and advices, but often the problem lies in their realization, primarily because of the lack of time and funds. Most would like to see the results of measures in a very short span of time, which is sadly impossible. |
