Abstract

Ritem življenja je v dandanašnjem času zelo hiter. Spremenili smo način življenja in prevzeli nove vrednote. Mobilnost nam predstavlja nujnost. Slabenje sluha, vida, kratkoročnega spomina in hitrost gibanja spremljajo vsako staranje. Potem so tu še razne starostne bolezni: bolezni srca in ožilja, nevrološke bolezni, bolezni notranjih organov idr.

Secondary abstract: The pace of life in today's time is very fast. We have changed the way of life and have taken on new values and mobility represents a necessity. We can’t imagine our life without traffic, highways, road infrastructure and advanced high-tech means of transport. Transport enables us development, but it also has a bad side. Traffic causes pollution of human environment, a lot of people lose their lives in traffic accidents and even more, they get easily or seriously injured. The state is trying to minimize the consequences of accidents. Particularly vulnerable groups in traffic are children, the elderly, the disabled and those who are unable to take care for themselves. These vulnerable groups should be given special protection. Children are particularly at risk in traffic because of their carelessness, inexperience and playfulness, while older people struggling with other problems. With age, physical and mental abilities start to weaken. Weakening of hearing, vision, short term memory and slowness of movement accompany oldness. There are also the various age diseases: cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, diseases of the internal organs, etc. With the aging process the driving skills get worse and consequently the risk and threat to the elderly in traffic is growing. Old people are particularly at risk as pedestrians and cyclists. Every year, the most injured or dead pedestrians and cyclists are in the age group above 65 years. Many young people are not aware of the problems faced by the elderly, so they are impatient and intolerant to them. On the contrary, the elderly are rarely critical to their health and driving skills. Regulated road infrastructure and traffic signs have big influence on safety of elderly road users. With a healthy lifestyle, exercise and training, it is possible to slow the decline in driving skills in order to extend the quality of mobility among the population of older people.
