Their activities are very important for ensuring safety of citizens and state existence. In modern democratic society directing and controlling activities of those services represents a huge challenge. Today that challenge becomes more visible because democratic society is trying to ensure human rights and fundamental freedom. Security services can also be the threat to those rights. Modern states have to assure suitable supervision to security services and their work. That is the only way to prevent those services from abusing their power. Candidate for entrance in European Union, Republic of Croatia as has to lead European directions and standards. To fulfill those conditions, it has to adjust its legislation and policy and parliamentary oversight is not an exception. The government activities have to be based on present policy and legislation. |
