Abstract

V diplomskem delu so predstavljene in klasificirane temeljne človekove pravice in svoboščine s poudarkom na pravici do življenja. Predstavljena sta dva temeljna dokumenta na področju varstva človekovih pravic, to sta Evropska konvencija o varstvu človekovih pravic in Splošna deklaracija človekovih pravic.

Secondary title: The right to life and euthanasia
Secondary abstract: In this thesis the fundamental human rights and freedoms are presented and classified, with emphasis on the right to life. I will also present two important documents in the field of human rights, which are European Convention on Human Rights and Universal Declaration of Human Rights and describe the importance and the application of European Court of Human Rights and constitutional protection of human rights in the Republic of Slovenia. Different types of euthanasia are described, reasons for and against it, how different countries look on the problem and how is the legal situation regarding euthanasia in Slovenia. The empirical part of my thesis presents the results of my research in which I was trying to find out people's knowledge about human rights and their opinion on euthanasia. The analysis shows that the majority of people lack knowledge in the field of human rights, which is rather disappointing, while their opinion regarding euthanasia is mostly favourable.
